Library Website Development
Moderator: Gaetan Hammond; Val Gerrard
Why have a library web presence?
To connect with students, parents and the community.
To expand your library beyond the physical walls.
To curate web resources that support curriculum.
To provide access to resources 24/7.
Your audience: Is it in kid-friendly language? Students first, parents second!
Organization: Is the content organized so that users can find it?
Navigation: Is the site navigation simple and relatively consistent? Is scrolling down kept to a minimum? Are columns used to streamline information?
Content: Is it clearly written? Does it include headings? Is it chunked into manageable sections? Are photos used to enhance the experience? Is it up-to-date? (A "News" section should be updated at least once a month.) Are links live or do they suffer from link rot?
